De La Salle University – Dasmariñas, my alma mater, is at the forefront of esteemed academic institutions in Dasmariñas, Cavite – a city known for being the home of premier universities outside of Manila which combine good quality academic institutions and the calm and quiet provincial life environment that make for an ideal place to pursue one’s education.
De La Salle University – Dasmariñas or DLSU-D is a Catholic school run by De La Salle Brothers which, for the last 30 years, has been providing quality Lasallian education with a green peaceful environment that is suitable for learning.
30 Years of DLSU-D
DLSU-D was founded in 1987 when University President Br. Andrew Gonzales decided to purchase Emilio Aguinaldo College or EAC, renaming it to DLSU-EAC, and then becoming DLSU-Dasmariñas in 1997.
DLSU-D was granted Autonomous Status by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in 2003, giving it the privilege to determine and prescribe curricular programs to achieve global competence, and authority to grant Honoris Causa to deserving individuals.
Since then DLSU-D has grown to be the premier university in Cavite.
Despite being driven by requirements of modern global education, DLSU-D has stayed true to the historical roots of Cavite – having a library named ‘Aklatang Emilio Aguinaldo’ that was modeled after the house of the president of the first Philippine Republic Emilio Aguinaldo, its own museum named ‘Museo De La Salle’ that houses historical artifacts highlighting the Spanish-era Ilustrado lifestyle, and even has several buildings named after Filipino historical figures some of which are Julian Felipe, Mariano Trias, Ladislao Diwa and Felipe Calderon.
DLSU-D carries the same brand of academic excellence which Lasallian schools are known for: awarded Best in Student Services Program for Region IV-A, 2009 by the CHED for its programs that enhance and support students’ academic development and success; recognized as a “Center of Excellence in Teacher Education” in 2010, and as the “Center of Development in Information Technology” in Region IV-A in 2012.
Another aspect of DLSU-D that separates it from the rest is the recognitions it has received as the most eco-friendly and environmentally sustainable university in the country, championing environmental sustainability initiatives for over a decade and earning its status as the benchmark of campuses developing environmental sustainability endeavors.
DLSU-D is recognized for ranking 50th in the UI Green Metric World University Rankings 2016, a global ranking of the most sustainable and eco-friendly universities.
Among numerous international and local accolades it has received, DLSU-D takes pride in being awarded Dark Green School status by the Philippine Network of Educators for the Environment, for integrating “green” practices in the University’s mission, curriculum, research, guidelines and practices.
DLSU-D is known for having its 27-hectare green campus fitted with roads shaded by a thick canopy of trees and a botanical garden with a man-made lake to match the university’s green and serene setting.
De La Salle University – Dasmariñas is indeed a unique educational institution that mixes together academic excellence, colorful history, and a lush green environment, making it one of the premier choices in your academic track.
